Head Start programs promote the school readiness of infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children and are available at no cost to families with low income. Families and children experiencing homelessness, children in the foster care system, and children participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) are also eligible. Additionally, Head Start services are available to children with disabilities and other special needs.

Early Head Start programs provide services for pregnant women and children from birth up to 3 years old and the child is ready to transition into a Head Start program or another pre-K program. Head Start programs are available for children ages 3 to 5. The programs support children's growth in a positive learning environment through a variety of services, which include:

-
early learning and development
-
health and physical development
-
social services

Services are provided in a variety of settings including classroom based centers, and the children's own homes. Programs may provide transportation to the centers so enrolled children can participate regularly. Centers are open on Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and Classroom schedules coincide with local Independent School Districts.

DISABILITIES & SPECIAL NEEDS

Our Family Service Staff guide parents through the referral process to access additional services when needed. Children who experience disability or have special needs, including those with intellectual, developmental, physical and/or learning disabilities, are welcome in all programs.

NUTRITION & HEALTH SCREENINGS

We believe children need to be physically and emotionally healthy to learn and grow.
Our Nutrition Department provides nutritious meals that encourage healthy food choices for students, building the foundation for a balanced and healthful approach toward food. Children learn to take turns and to serve themselves while participating in Family Style Meals.
We provide a variety of screenings to assess for vision, hearing, dental, developmental or mental health needs, to ensure all children are receiving the services they need.
